BLOCKCHAIN COMPANIES IN AFRICA TEAM UP TO RAISE FUNDS FOR CHARITY AMID COVID-19
Finally, some transparency for charity in Africa...
Over 50 crypto and blockchain-related companies in Africa have come together to raise funds for charity. The program “Blockchain4COVID-19 seeks to provide relief to individuals and families who have been hardly hit by the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
It’s no longer news that nations of the world are currently on lockdown as this has proven to be the most feasible way to reduce the spread of the virus. However, the economic impacts of the lockdown are proving to be far more severe in Africa where the poverty rate is high and the distribution of palliatives is highly uneven.
This charity project, Blockchain4COVID-19 will put the blockchain technology to use in providing an efficient, transparent, and cost-effective means of fund-raising during these hard times.
Nigeria is one country where a large percentage of the population relies on daily income for survival and the lockdown means they will likely die of hunger before the virus if nothing is done, owing to the stringent measures taken to ensure that the lockdown policy is enforced.
The fundamental goal of this project is “to provide aid to at least 500 poor families around the city of Lagos during the lockdown and isolation period where people are required to stay at home with almost no alternative source of income.”
Reacting to this initiative, the Chairman of the Blockchain4COVID-19 project and CEO, BeepMagnet Intl Dr. Don Gilead says:
“We are looking at creating a transparent and corruption-free charity model that ensures proper accountability by deploying the immutable and auditable blockchain technology. The goal is to provide aid to at least 500 families around the city of Lagos during the lockdown and isolation period where people are required to stay at home with almost no alternative source of income.”
“Though the pandemic has kept us in a lockdown, through this (blockchain4covid19) we won’t forget the poor next door”, affirmed Tony Emeka, CEO CryptoTVPlus, who is also co-founder of this initiative.
Blockchain technology is one that is changing processes and operations in different industries globally, and the Blockchain4COVID-19 project through real-life applications will put the technology to practical use while educating the public on the massive benefits that the technology has to offer.
One thing is guaranteed through the efforts of this project; your funds and resources can be accounted for, and you can be at ease knowing that your resources are being put to judicious use.
